The reason for the name is evident: <strong>it is the first of the towers built<\/strong> in the architectural group that makes up the Torres do Allo. Boasting a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/G\u00f3tico_tard\u00edo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">late or final-Gothic style<\/a><\/strong>,  it\u2019s construction dates back to the late 15th century by <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/10.0.3.200\/torresdoallo\/\/historia\/a-casa-dos-rioboo\/\">Alonso G\u00f3mez de Riob\u00f3o, son of Berenguela S\u00e1nchez de Altamira and G\u00f3mes de Riob\u00f3o y Vilandefrancos<\/a><\/strong>; the first inhabitants of the Pazo do Allo. The Torre Viexa, two stories high, is closely linked to the \u2018fortress house\u2019\u2014a quadrangular thick-walled structure also called the \u2018casa do allo\u2019 from which its construction was supported. Over the course of many years this annex house was probably used as housing for the Riob\u00f3o\u2019s servants.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.torresdoallo.gal\/\/wp-content\/gallery\/torre-viexa\/torre-viexa-01-1280.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-6\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"thumb\">\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.torresdoallo.gal\/\/wp-content\/gallery\/torre-viexa\/torre-viexa-01-1280.jpg\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"div_pefoto\">\n<span class=\"pefoto\">&#8220;Torre Viexa&#8221;<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Despite being a civil construction, stately and palatial, the Torre Norte <strong>retains many defensive elements of military architecture<\/strong>. Its extraordinary massive walls, structural austerity <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/10.0.3.200\/torresdoallo\/\/o-pazo\/detalles\/\">arrow-slit windows<\/a><\/strong> from which spears and arrows could be fired, coats of arms, and the existence of a single reinforced entrance door confirm that the Viexa Tower is a kind of <strong>civil replica of what the castle of <a href=\"http:\/\/10.0.3.200\/torresdoallo\/\/historia\/castelo-do-allo\/\">Allo would have been like<\/a><\/strong>. However, <strong>the tower is ornamentally rich<\/strong>, cwith ogee and mixtilinear arches, decorated with vegetative motifs, gargoyles and splendid windows of Hispanic-Flemish influence.
